Now down the western steep slow sinks the sun,

Wreaths of smoke rose from the chimney.

A red sun rose slowly from the calm sea.

Through the trees rises the red moom,

The old man raised his head,facing the rising sun.

老人抬起头，面对冉冉升起的太阳。

I saw a red dawning sun rising slowly.

我看到一轮曈昽的红日在冉冉升起。

It seemed as though Jean Valjean did not hear him.

冉阿让好象全没听见。

Jean Valjean was in the shadows.

冉阿让落在黑暗里。

Jean Valjean dropped his head, and made no reply.

冉阿让低下头，不答话。

Jean Valjean recognized the difficulty.

冉阿让知道那种困难。
